On November 1, 2016, lacrosse teams from the greater Seattle area will be participating in the WA Love "Play for a Cause" jamboree. This is an event run by the Washington Lacrosse Foundation and is not a tournament, but rather an opportunity for the boys to get out and play the game of lacrosse regardless of score.
All of the money raised from this event is going to support a local lacrosse family that has been struck by tragedy. The Washington lacrosse community tragically lost a member, Andy Miller in April. He is survived by his wife, Shannon, and sons, David (14) and Thomas (13). Andy loved lacrosse and raised both his boys to love the game too. In June, David suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in a craniotomy that will keep him from playing the game he loves, but 4 months after surgery he’s volunteered to coach a youth clinic to attract more kids to the game. He loved seeing the faces of the kids who’d never picked up a stick before. He’s hoping to be part of the Newport team this year in a coaching or managing position.
Hope to see you all out there and enjoying a day of lacrosse and remembering how lucky we are to have the support of our loved ones and the ability to enjoy the sport.
